The easy way to learn guitar chords is to pick out which chords you want to learn and practice them every day. Most guitar students have the constant question in their minds of “when am I going to be a guitarist instead of newbie?” It is natural to be looking for a result, to know that the trip uphill is finally over, but that is not really the way it happens. If you practice a minimum of three chords every day, you get the ability to play as part of a gradual process. Yes, you will find yourself playing songs and making fast chord changes one day but how well you are playing your chords depends on how you practiced on all the days leading up to your emergence as a guitar player.

In practicing guitar chords there is no yesterday. You start off your practice session today as if you know nothing about guitar chords. Every day when you begin your practice you will need to find out where you are with your chords. Let your fingers find where they need to go on the guitar fretboard at their own pace. You see, when you finished up your guitar practice yesterday your hands were warmed up. When you start practicing today, you remember how good your chord changes were yesterday and you try to play too fast. The fast chord changes WILL come but only after SLOW practice.

So is there anything to make learning guitar chords easy? Yes. You can learn guitar chords alot faster if you have chord charts for a few songs that you really like. This way you know which chords you need to learn, and trying the chord changes in your songs will help you to know where you are in your progress as a guitar player. You can use the notes you find in your chords to try to find the guitar solo in your songs, or to make up your own. You can start practicing bar chords by looking up the bar chord shapes for the chords you have already been practicing. You will see how different your songs sound when you make use of bar chords.

You might also be interested in learning to play, or at least get to know, the many variations there are in all chord shapes. Any major chord can be played around a dozen different ways. You do not have to learn them all off by heart but you can look them up in your chord charts and play them through to see how different they all sound.

Another thing that will help you on your way as you learn guitar chords is by finding your favorite chord. Mine was E minor – a two finger chord that sounded great in “I’m Only Sleeping” by The Beatles. Playing that chord helped me remember why I wanted to learn to play guitar. For some guitar players their favorite chord is D minor because of its ability to evoke emotions. Some people like their guitar chords in alternate tunings like Double Dropped D – D A D G B D.

Learning guitar is a journey that begins with curiosity and enthusiasm. If you’re about to start guitar, or have already been playing, you might be wondering, “Should I play acoustic or electric?” As a guitar teacher for many years, I will share some of my knowledge and experience with you on this important topic.

Playing the Acoustic Guitar

Traditionally, many beginner guitar students (and parents in particular) feel that the acoustic guitar is ideal for starting. The acoustic can certainly be a great way to start, since in its basic form, doesn’t have as many bells and whistles as the electric. This can help a student focus on the basics and fundamentals of learning the guitar. The acoustic guitar also builds calluses and can strengthen the students fingers generally faster than the electric. On the other hand, learning on an acoustic guitar can be harder to maneuver than the electric, in terms of playing the higher frets and holding the instrument. Some students choose a thinner body acoustic which tends to be easier to hold.

Playing the Electric Guitar

For beginner guitar players, the electric is also a great choice. An electric can have more versatility than an acoustic guitar, which can be important down the road. For example, an electric guitar can have a whammy bar, which is used to adjust the pitch or vibrate a note. I’ve found that many of my student’s get a kick out of using the whammy bar! The electric guitar is also a solid body, so it tends to be easier to hold. On the flip side, electric guitars can be heavier in weight.

So, Should I Play Acoustic or Electric?

You’ve read some of my perspectives above, now let’s identify what it really comes down to in terms of playing acoustic or electric. Below are five general points that may influence your decision to play acoustic or electric guitar (or both if you have the time and money!).

Do you like the sound of acoustic or electric better?

Do your favorite music styles lean more toward acoustic or electric?

Which type of guitar feels better to you when you play it?

Which type of guitar is more comfortable to play?

Which of these guitar sound better to you?

1.	You do not need to learn every chord.

Some people will tell you to try and learn a new chord a day. This is nonsense.

The easiest way to remember something is to use it. Pick a relatively easy song and learn the chords and changes you need to play it. This is far quicker, more fun, more rewarding and more efficient way of learning guitar.

2.	The easiest guitar riffs to start learning are bass string riffs.

There are loads of great examples of these – ‘Day Tripper’, ‘Blister in the sun’, ‘here comes your man’, ‘come as you are’ etc. One huge advantage of learning these riffs is that you can use them to get your Low E string in tune – if the riff does not sound right, the string is probably not in tune.

3.	When you are playing a song and you make mistakes pretend like nothing happened.

When I first started playing guitar in front of people I used to get so flustered if I made a mistake that I ended up messing up the whole tune. I quickly learned if you ignore your mistakes and keep playing the listener will not notice most of the time.

4.	Learn to play on a decent steel string acoustic guitar.

I first started playing on a nylon string guitar and playing with a pick just sounded wrong. I graduated to a really rubbish steel string guitar with a neck so warped the strings at the fifth fret were half an inch from the fret board.

Until I managed to find myself a decent guitar practice was a frustrating experience and felt too much like work. Oh, and unless you are firmly set on only ever playing electric guitar I would really advise against starting on one. Moving from playing electric to acoustic guitar is twice as hard as moving the opposite way because of the fret spacing and string gauges.

5.	Learn some of the more common alternate tunings.

A lot of popular songs written in alternative tunings can be quite difficult, if not impossible, to play from standard tuning.

The finest example of this is ‘Honky Tonk Women’ by The Rolling Stones, which has baffled many a guitarist until they figure out it is not in standard tuning. Probably the easiest alternative tuning to begin with is Drop D tuning.

6.	Practicing is important but you must have a reason for learning new techniques.

Knowing your goal is half the battle.

Learning something like harmonics can seem pointless, or, at best mildly diverting unless you have a song in mind that requires you to know how to play them. If you do not have a reason for learning a technique you will quickly lose interest or get frustrated if things do not work as quickly as planned.

7.	Try and get some basic knowledge of music theory.

Reading music notation is very useful (unless you are Paul McCartney, who famously does not read music). Having some kind of knowledge of how chords are formed and what exactly scales are can be very helpful.

It’s not that hard. There are only seven letters. For example, sometimes you will find tabs on the internet which are physically impossible to play. This is especially true for ‘guitar pro’ tabs. If you have a good knowledge of the fret board you can manipulate the tab and make it a lot easier to play.

Learning guitar online can be a very wise decision. Not only are they inexpensive but you can learn and practice at your own schedule which makes it very convenient and also the guitar lessons are a lot of fun. If you have ever tried learning guitar from a book then you probably know the meaning of boring. Learning guitar should not be boring and should not be frustrating.

If you are interested in learning guitar online, you will need four things: a guitar, a pick, a computer and self-discipline. If you have even the smallest amount of ability, online guitar lessons from a good website will have you playing your favorite music before you know it.

You can also find guitar lessons at your local guitar or music store or at a local college but they will cost more and may be tough to find a good instructor. What matters most is that you match your learning method to your learning style. Learning to play guitar is not complicated when you start with the fundamentals and work your way up from there. After a few basic lessons, you will be strumming out tunes and playing your own distinctive sounds.

The first few lessons will teach you how to hold the guitar and pick in the proper manner. You will also learn what each of the instruments parts is called. From there, you will move quickly to learning about scales and chords. You will probably be playing some chords before you are finished with your first lesson. Once you have learned scales and chords, strumming patterns and actual songs will not be far behind.

Practice is the most essential part of learning to play the guitar. It does not matter what you know in your head if you are not applying it to actually playing the guitar. The more you practice, the more automatic you’re playing will be and you will constantly improve your skills. Just as a dancer does not have to think about what their next move will be, a diligent musician becomes one with the instrument.

Learning to play the guitar can lead to a satisfying hobby or career in music. There are some lessons you can get free online but if you really want to become an expert guitar player, you should look into a reputable online guitar lesson website and you will be amazed on how fast you will be playing your favorite guitar songs.

Many beginning guitar players often look up to their favorite guitar god because of their ability to make amazing sounds come from their guitar. This is usually done by playing single notes as a lead guitarist. In order to learn these notes, we can look at and learn guitar tabs in order to play the lead guitar part of these songs ourselves.

There are many different ways in which you can learn guitar tabs such as can be found and discussed in books, dvd’s and the internet. However, it all comes down to a simple chart that we will have to learn to read in order to play the best part of our favorite guitar solo that we have wanted to learn for so long.

With other tips and tricks as well as using tabs, we can be just as good or maybe even better than our favorite player out there. We can also take liberties in our own practice sessions to do improv in order to make the song our own. However, the first thing to do before we can get that far is to learn guitar tabs, learn how to read them so you can play the song as it was meant to be played.

When you learn guitar tabs, you will find out the charts consist of 6 lines, which represent each guitar string. Keep in mind that the chart is upside down. The very top string (or line) on the chart actually represents the very top string on the guitar. As we all know from basic guitar lessons, starting from the top string, the open notes are E,A,D,G,B and E. “square” on your guitar neck is actually called a “fret”. So when we look at this chart we can see that these numbers on the strings actually represent which fret we are to go to for that particular sound. “0″ on the chart, simply play that string openly; the zero means you do not have to go to any particular fret. I hope this article called guitar tabs has been of interest to you.

On these lines that represent the guitar strings in this little chart for your song, you will see numbers. Now, you probably also know that each “square” on your guitar neck is actually called a “fret”. So when we look at this chart we can see that these numbers on the strings actually represent which fret we are to go to for that particular sound.

For example, if you see a 7 on the 3rd line of the chart, that just means you will press the D string at the 7th fret to be able to make that sound. The full songs or even measures can be quite long and tedious when it comes to reading guitar tabs, just remember to read them from left to right, just like regular reading. Play them in order and if two numbers are stacked on top of each other on the chart, play them both at the same time. If you see a “0″ on the chart, simply play that string openly; the zero means you do not have to go to any particular fret.

What is the best way to learn guitar? With the growth in popularity of in rock music and people wanting to pick up a guitar it is becoming a more searched for piece of information. In this article you will find the methods available for learning guitar and see which is the right one for you.

Learn To Play The Guitar Books

Literally there are thousands of these books on the market, some good and some bad, and they are a very popular method of learning to play the guitar. The biggest reason for this is most probably because they are the cheapest way to learn guitar. It does take patience to learn using a book and it does have a higher failure rate than other methods but if you are the patient type that it may be the right way for you.

learn guitar by Ear

Learning the guitar by ear is in most cases the most difficult way to learn to play the guitar but if you can pick it up then it is also the most fun and most satisfying method. If you feel you are naturally musical then give it a go, you can always revert to another method if you can not pick it up this way.

learn guitar Videos

Learning to play the guitar with video is becoming very popular and could soon be challenging books as the most common choice. Videos are better than books in general as you can see exactly what is required and the method feels more involving which will help you to keep your focus. The only real thing missing is the lack of individual attention and feedback that can be given by a personal tutor.

Private Sessions

This is the method with the higher rate of success and so in many ways it is the best way to learn guitar. The fact that you are been assigned a program for your own needs and you are given all the help you need with anything you are struggling with. That said it may not be right for everyone as it is quite expensive to pay for private lessons and can also take up a fair chunk of your time.

Conclusion

If you are really dedicated to learning the guitar and you have the cash then the best way to learn guitar is without question to go with a private tutor. Other than that in many cases it boils down to personal preference but the method with the higher rate of success is through the use of videos.

How would a 19th century musician react to an online learn guitar kit? His or her jaws would drop! Yes, this is what happened to Helle, who landed in the 21st century through her time machine. She was from the era of Elvis Presley. She had never imagined in her wildest dreams that a time would come when people would learn guitar online!

Helle quickly hid her time machine and walked down the streets of the bustling city. After strolling for about a couple of hours, she came to know that the city was Las Vegas – the Sin City! (It didn’t take her much time to realize why the city was called by that name!)

There was one thing that Helle noticed in the city – almost everyone loved guitar. Whether it was a bad guy, a sober guy, a busy breadwinner, a lazy lout, or a lovelorn soul, everyone was spotted with this stylish musical instrument. Perhaps that’s why everyone wanted to be seen with a guitar – it was stylish.

But, for Helle, the reason why she owned a guitar was that it produced a pleasant acoustic effect on her ear drums, which would soothe her senses in seconds. Besides, it was easy to learn guitar. She was puzzled why the 21st century generation needed an online ‘learn guitar’ kit.

After spending an entire day in Las Vegas, Helle realized the need for online guitar training. Modern people were short of time. “How sad?” she thought. She was stunned to know that people didn’t have time to visit a tutor on a regular basis to learn the basics of guitar playing. Yet, she was impressed by the modern generation’s burning desire to learn guitar, no matter what. They just couldn’t sit at home and watch their dreams of becoming a guitarist go down the drain.

That is the reason why online guitar lessons have become a rage, especially in metropolitans. You only need to browse the websites. You can grasp the techniques of guitar playing by just scrolling your mouse on the screen!

Whether you dream to join a musical band as a lead guitarist or just wish to impress your girlfriend by playing the guitar, go for the learn guitar kit and watch your fingers play at the strings elegantly!

Helle was amazed to find how simple and time-saving the online guitar lessons were! In her times, it had been tough for most people to learn guitar. “This generation is lucky!” thought Helle.

The online lessons feature a simple mode of instructions that can be grasped by even someone who has seen a guitar for the first time! If you have a PC at home, you can simply install software that has powerful guitar lessons. Whenever you have the time, you can run your software and start your lessons!

It was time for Helle to return home. She was excited to tell her people about the modern age guitar lessons. As she was about to press the button of her time machine, she remembered to sneak in the guitar lesson software in her bag. She wanted to show her people how advanced humans had become, yet the love for music was still the same!
